GAVIN STEWART

COMPOSER

"Technology has woven it's way into the fabric of our lives. Touch screens and tablets have made software applications integral to our daily processes. Acknowledging that music is not exempt from this integration, my compositions find inspiration in hybridizing digital media with live recorded sound. I find it important to create a sound landscape by including naturally occurring, percussive sound effects and highlighting their tonalities with software plug-ins and live instruments. I am passionate about preserving melodic cadences common in western folk music as a way to connect our technologically sophisticated age to ages past.  Using these elements, my mission is to arrange harmonies and melodies that transport listeners to a familiar place from new perspectives."
